How many times have you trolled Instagram and found a new beauty hack that you just had to try?
While Insta is completely overloaded with endless beauty hacks, not all of them are safe or even life changing to say the least.
With that, here are 5 beauty hacks that ultimately went viral, that you should totally stay clear of:
USING WASABI AS A ZIT SPOT TREATMENT
Okay.. so we’ve all definitely heard about We’re all about all natural acne treatments but this is where we need to draw the line.
Sorry ladies and gents, but there is absolutely zero anti-inflammatory properties that can be found in wasabi.
Like none what-so-ever.
And that’s not all, wasabi can literally burn your skin.
FWIW, keep the wasabi on your sushi and off of your face.
USING DEODORANT AS A FACE PRIMER
So, I’ll give you this one. It does sound pretty logical right?
After all, deodorant DOES help keep your armpits matte and dry…so naturally it should do the same for your face, yes?
Oh, except it doesn’t.
Just a little reminder that deodorant contains aluminum salts and fragrances which can all end up being super irritating to the face.
So say hello to a potentially red, flaky and inflamed face filled with acne and bumps.
Now there’s a visual.
USING NAIL POLISH TO COVER COLD SORES
While this may seem incredibly tempting, just don’t.
According to the American Contact Dermatitis Society, nail polish is one of the most common allergens we could come in contact with, so applying it directly to your cold sore, is actually doing more harm.
And remember, cold sores are herpes, which means it’s a transmissible virus.
What does that mean?
It’s not going anywhere fast.
And if you have a cold sore, you stay clear of lipstick unless unless you plan on having herpes all over again, since that virus now lives within that tube of lipstick….
USING LEMON AND BAKING SODA TO BRIGHTEN ARMPITS
Ugh. Just no!
Lemon and baking soda = A mixture that can burn through your skin.
So it’s one things to scrub your skin with sugar as it can cause micro tears and irritation, but then adding lemon to the equation?
Lemon is super acidic.
And baking soda, which is super basic.
What does that mean?
The combo can severely irritate your skin and can potentially lead to burns.
USING DENTAL FLOSS TO EXTRACT BLACKHEADS
Tempting, but now.
Sure, you can totally expect it to take off whatever minuscule layer or natural face oils and dead skin cells that’s already sitting on your nose, but dont’ expect a minty piece of string to do wonders.
All this beauty hack does it leave little stripes of purpura—AKA small, bleeding blood vessels—down your nose.
Just skip this beauty hack and leave extractions to your dermatologist.
