For next year’s 2018 Met Gala event, Rihanna, Donatella Versace and Amal Clooney have been announced as the hosts.

And the theme for the event has been announced as well. The event will highlight the connection between fashion and religion.

2018 Met Gala Theme:

“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”

Curator Andrew Bolton, told the New York Times:

“Every show we do at the Costume Institute has that potential. This one perhaps more than any other. But the focus is on a shared hypothesis about what we call the Catholic imagination and the way it has engaged artists and designers and shaped their approach to creativity, as opposed to any kind of theology or sociology. Beauty has often been a bridge between believers and unbelievers.”

The Versace sponsored exhibit will open May 10 and will feature:

  • about 50 papal pieces on loan from the Vatican
  • and an additional 150 designer items that is said to be inspired by Catholic imagery

The 2018 event is slated to be the largest show to date and an invitation will be extended to Cardinal Dolan.

The Met Gala will also take place on May 7, 2018.
