NYC – its just a one of a kind type of place and especially when spring and summer weather hit, it is definitely one of the best places to be.
The rooftop bars, patio restaurants, happy hour- what else could you ask for? New York is the place to be and if you disagree, you just haven’t found the right places yet! 😉
Being in NYC and with the weather going from 50 degrees to 90 in just two days, I figured the best thing for me to inform you guys of, is what MUST haves you need to take on a summer in NYC.
As soon as the weather changes, whether it is winter, spring or summer I always say
“k time for a new wardrobe!”
(even though I have tubs and tubs of clothes in my basement of the opposite season).
Who doesn’t want to start the nice weather with a shopping spree!?
Unfortunately if you’re anything like me, you just can’t go shopping everyday. You just wont make it in life. Well, unless you’re a millionaire….
Anyway, if here are my TOP 5 MUST HAVES in NYC for summer:
Note: You do NOT need to go out and spend so much money because this list will be easier than you may presume! I will link all I can to make easy shopping access for you guys if you see anything you want!
There really is not much to say about this except that everyone needs sneakers in NYC.
You can wear it with shorts, skirts, jeans, sweats – however you choose to style it but NYC consists of A LOT of walking, and you 110% need a pair of sneakers.
My Top Sneaker Recommendations are:
All of these sneakers can be worn in numerous ways and come in a BUNCH of colors. They are definitely the top sneakers this year. Go get some (if you do not already have one of the above)
2. PLATFORM SANDALS
These were something I loveddddd in middle school (remember the Steven madden slinky platform wedge?)
I wore them everyday until they went out of style, and to be honest, I am SO happy they’re back!
Also, I’m 5’2 so platforms are always a good choice for me.
Platforms can make any outfit look so much more dressed up without sacrificing comfort. So instead of opting for a regular flat with your flowy dress, go for a platform.
And if you’re going for a more casual but not too casual look, opt for jeans to go with your super cute platform.
Either way these shoes work!
You can also get a super cute pair like below for only $20 at Dor L’ Dor (mine were from Red Bank, NJ)
3. Flowy Clothes
I’m talking rompers, dresses, skirts, TOPS.
It’s literally been SO HOT in NYC these last few days that all you can really wear is loose clothing.
Trust me, you do not want to sit at lunch and have jeans GLUED to you.
A flowy maxi dress, a romper, or a floral flowy skirt will do the trick ALL summer here!
4. Bags & Backpacks
Not only do you want these to be cute but you also want them to be lightweight.
I want my next purchase to be the LV backpack. It’s SO small, easy to hold, light and just fits what you need- ID, card, cash, phone.
Currently my mom isn’t too happy about it because she wants me to save for a wedding blah blah. So maybe I’ll listen to her? I mean, she is always right. 🙂
BUT if you can invest in it, GO FOR IT!
Little bags are so in and ideal for summer in NYC, especially when you’re running errands, going to a quick lunch or even work. You do NOT want to be lugging around a huge bag in 90 degrees, trust me it will make you miserable.
So if you’re on the hunt for a small bag, you can get the cutest small bags at forever 21 right here!
You will not make it walking around NYC without sunglasses all summer.
You’ll either have terrible wrinkles or a terrible headache from squinting 24/7.
Some awesome sites for sunnies are:
See you really don’t need much! And I’m pretty sure you may already have majority of the items on the list to take on NYC!
P.S. Follow along for my journey around NYC, NJ, and whatever vacation I am on next:
Hello Lovies! So for years I have been asked where do I get my clothes, how do I put it together and to please start a blog so everyone else can know without asking me 24/7. Even though I never mind it at all, I actually LOVE it- which is why I guess I chose to start this blog. After years of being afraid of getting judged, or not being good enough at it, I decided I really do not care what people think anymore and I finally will take the plunge and go for it! Creating a fashion blog has been a dream of mine for years and years, when I was little I used to play ‘house’ with my sisters, pretend they were my kids and I was their fashonista mom. I would create outfits for them to wear in a word document and then laminate the pages and show my parents ( yes I was 10, and yes I know it sounds crazy). I realized sitting back and thinking about it, but not doing anything will not get me anywhere- so if anyone reading this is afraid too, whats the worst that can happen? At least you can say you tried! I am currently living in NJ, and working in the big apple/greatest city in the world: NYC. I graduated from Penn State University with a BA in Marketing and Public Relations and a minor in Communications. Fashion has always been a HUGE part of my life! Some people would say I have a shopping problem (not going to disagree) but I always look at it as a way to express myself creatively each and every day. So my money is going to amazing use, right?! As a lover of fashion, travel and photography this is a space where I will be sharing bits and pieces of my life and everything I love. I have a LONG way to go, a lot of edits, a lot of improving this site and I am positive there will be loads of revamping BUT I am here I did it and everyone starts somewhere.. So positive energy only PLEASE ? I hope you all enjoy this journey as much as I will!!
