Dunkin’ Donuts just dropped their new and limited-edition line of running shoes: the Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9.
Dunkin’ collaborated with Saucony, a Boston-based brand, to create only 2,000 pairs of shoes. The shoes were made available to pre-order last week but quickly sold out.
In a statement, Saucony CMO Amanda Reiss says:
“As we celebrate Saucony’s 120th anniversary, we’re proud to honor our hometown marathon and Boston’s rich running heritage in partnership with Dunkin’ Donuts, a brand known for ‘keeping America running.’”
Reiss also notes:
“The Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 celebrates the joy, determination and delicious obsession of runners everywhere with a sense of playfulness that’s true to the heart and soul of both brands.”
And while running shoes may not seem like the most common-sense apparel item for the coffee/doughnut chain to go in, Dunkin seems to think otherwise, noting that Strava, an exercise-tracking app, has found that coffee is the number 1 food or beverage mentioned by runners.
And if you’re wondering if runners ever mention doughnuts, apparently they do but it’s the sixth most mentioned.
Justin Unger, director of strategic partnerships at Dunkin’ Brands says:
“We’ve been keeping America running on Dunkin’ for decades, and we’re thrilled to partner with Saucony to literally keep Bostonians running this marathon season.”
The 2018 Boston Marathon will be held on April 16.
