So, it appears that Selena Gomez did an Instagram revamp over the weekend.
Not only did it include a new bio, but it also included:
- a new profile pick (of course!)
- and simply unfollowing hundreds of accounts (NBD!)
But who did she unfollow, you ask?
She still does however, follow:
- several Selena Gomez fan accounts
- Taylor Swift
- Amy Schumer
- Jessica Alba,
- her stylist Kate Young
- and her best friend (and kidney donor) Francia Raisa
The activity was noticed by fan as the Gomez follow list shrank from 316 to just 37.
At this moment, Gomez has yet to tell us why she has reduced her following list but we’re pretty sure it’s not drama related as Gomez commented on Lovato’s recent Instagram while Lovato liked Gomez’s latest post.
It is important to note that in an interview last year, Gomez mentioned that she doesn’t have the password to her own Instagram account and that her assistant actually does her posting for her.
With that, the entire unfollowing activity may just be a part of a brand strategy instead of personal.
In the interview, Gomez says:
“As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out.”
She also went onto say:
“It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about. I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit.”
Gomez did however add a very heartfelt post to her Instagram account stating:
“The home I grew up in, from birth to 13… (no one was home when I knocked this time lol).”
She also says:
“I visit this place every chance I get. In many ways it very well could have been better than my life today, but I’m grateful for a voice that can enable change today. Even when I don’t know how to do it well or actually want it. I love you Grand Prairie. Thank you. ❤️”
