Got Curves? Here's How To Accentuate Your Best Features

Having a plus size body in today’s society is so much harder than it needs to be.

It’s not enough that constant social pressures exist, making women feel the need to lose weight and fit into one body type, but it’s seemingly impossible to clothe the body you have today because of the lack of options to women of curves.

In today’s world, there still seems to be a serious lacking in not only sizing but fashion styles to plus-sized women. What you tend to find is sizes going from one end of the spectrum to the other but nothing suitable in between.

But, to help ease that problem, we did some research. Specifically, on how you can look fashionable all through spring and summer. Our approach to all this is to accentuate your best features.

With that, we also took the liberty of researching the fashion labels that offer up the best styles.

Remember, your body size doesn’t have to hold you back from being stylish. Nor should it make you any less confident. We’re finally in a place in the world where body diversity is encouraged. We just need fashion labels to get up to speed.

So, here’s what we’ve got:

Show your arms

The weather is warm and it’s time to embrace that fully!

There’s absolutely no reason to be for you to be afraid to show your arms. This season, ditch those long sleeves because we’re not here for it! Instead, opt for something more breathable, like a tank or short sleeve.

And if showing your arms happens to be somewhat out of your comfort zone, start with a simple tee. A tee is a great starter as it’s universal and can be styled in multiple ways.

If you want a casual look, pair your tee with some denim jeans or shorts. If you’re looking someting a bit cuter but still casual, opt for a pair of overalls with your tee.

Our Store Recommendation: Consider opting for a sleeveless dress, like this bright pink sleeveless blazer dress from PrettyLittleThing. PrettyLittleThing has extended its sizing to a 26 and offers up a variety of trendy styles at an affordable rate.

Go bold

Being bold takes a lot of courage, but is also very adrenaline inducing and rewarding.

This spring and summer, go bold and buy a crop top.

Even if you’re not so thrilled about the way your tummy looks, you can still rock a crop top! All you have to do is pair your crop with a super cute high-waisted maxi skirt or high-rise denim jeans. Finalize the look with some killer wedges and you’re golden!

Our Store Recommendation: Not only is the entire Boohoo line incredibly affordable but they offer the exact same clothes but in bigger sizes. Does it get any better?

Patterns. Yes, we said patterns.

Solid colors are cool, but if you really want to make a statement, opt for a really cool pattern.

Patterns are funky and stylish and have a really great way of distracting and drawing people away from areas you may not want people to focus on.

For example, if you happened to be a bit chest heavy, opt for a maxi skirt with a pattern. Draw people below the chest and highlight your sexy curves.

And since patterns come in a variety of styles, don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. Spring and summer is truly the time for experimentation, so go nuts!

Our Store Recommendation: Not many people are aware that Mango offers up plus size options but it’s really worth a look as they offer designs up to a size 26.

Colors, colors, colors

While black can scream elegance and comfort, it’s time to go beyond your comfort zone. Confidence radiates from bright colored clothing like nothing else.

This spring/summer, use colors like yellow, purple, light blue, red, or even green, to accentuate your curves in the best way.

Maybe this time, you do want to bring attention to your chest. Use a bright pink crop top to highlight your girls and do it with confidence!

Our Store Recommendation: Elvi a mix of high-quality wardrobe staples and high fashion pieces that you wouldn’t expect from a plus size brand and are known for their amazing collaborations.

Show some leg

The biggest concern plus sized women have seems to be their legs.

I wish I could wear a skirt…and so on.

This spring/summer just be downright playful. You can’t achieve playful in black tights and jeans… so ditch them and go for those cute shorts you’ve been dying to wear but were too scared to. Just do it!

Set your legs free girl! Show the world how confident and fabulous you are.

Cellulite or no cellulite, show off your legs. Who cares.

The media truly has us all convinced that we need to hide our stretch marks and cellulite. Remember when Kim Kardashian got body shamed?

Eff that noise! Your stretch marks and/or cellulite is just a sign you have lived a life and you shouldn’t be afraid of that. Showing what you’ve got just exudes confidence.

Our Store Recommendation: ASOS Curve will always going to be our number one curvy girl shop. ASOS always tends to come through with the classics and more trend lead pieces and of course, offer up these styles in sizes ranging from 16-30! How amazing?! Fashion brands, take note!

Forget the social pressures that make you feel like you need to lose weight and fit into one body type. Your body size doesn’t and shouldn’t hold you back from being stylish. Nor should it make you any less confident. Instead, learn to love your body and learn to style to accentuate the features you love most.
